Australian surfer dies in Bali

An Australian man on holiday in Bali died on Friday after falling unconscious while surfing.

The man has been identified by Indonesian authorities as Peter Surman, 56, from Malvern. Surman is believed to have been surfing at Kuta Reef surfbreak, when he apparently lost consciousness.

“We can’t confirm where he was surfing, because he could have floated and been carried by the waves to that position from several different Kuta surfing spots,” said I Wayan Redip, the Denpasar water police chief.

“The beach lifeguard then evacuated the victim by jetski to the beach,” said Redip. Despite being rushed to BIMC for emergency treatment, Surman reportedly passed away two hours later.

Surman was allegedly staying at the Risata Bali Resort and Spa with his wife. There were supposed to check out on Saturday.
