Story of lost Canggu dog finally reuniting with owner will make you tear up if you have a heart

After 10 1/2 long weeks, a lost Bali dog was at last reunited with her owner, who had been adamant that she would not call off her search until she found her pup.

If you are at all plugged into the Bali Facebook networks like Bali Expats or in the Bali animal-lover groups like I Love Bali Dogs, then you’ve probably seen scores of posts over the past couple months by the women under the profile name Sandra Scammell.

Scammell’s posts tell of how her dog Elle went missing during commotion from fireworks in the Batu Bolong Beach area, back on December 19, 2014.

Since then, Scammell has posted across various Bali Facebook groups dozens of times, mentioning identifying features of Elle (tiger-pattern fur, fluffy tail, white blaze on forehead, etc), offering rewards for leads, and updating us on the emotional struggles of being away from her “furbaby” for so long. She also created a Facebook group “Help Find Elle in Bali” solely for the purpose of spreading information about Elle’s search.

Clearly missing Elle desperately, Scammell chronicled during her Elle search how she found a stray Bali dog puppy that needed urgent medical attention and rallied people on social media to raise funds to save puppy “Shee.”

Even after all this time, Scammell did not stop looking for Elle, when the chances of finding Elle seemed dismal in Bali, with people telling her that Elle could have been stolen to be resold as a pet or for dog meat, or have starved to death. It also didn’t help that reports of dog cullings broke out in Bali since Elle’s disappearance.

There were even false alarms, where people found photos of dogs that appeared to be Elle, but were only other Bali dogs with similar tiger-coat patterns.

That’s why we were pleasantly surprised to the point of happy tears when Scammell announced that she had finally found Elle on March 3, just minutes away from where she was originally lost.

Welcome home Elle!
