Another bird smuggling operation thwarted in Bali-Java crossing

Less than a week after police caught a man trying to smuggle birds packed in boxes out of Bali, they’ve thwarted another bird smuggling operation at Bali’s Port of Gilimanuk on Sunday.

Tribun Bali reports that police confiscated 250 cendet birds and 80 pleci birds.

Glimanuk Police Chief I Nyoman Wirya Sucipta confirmed the news on Monday afternoon, explaining that the birds were transported by a bus driver identified as Martin, 36. He was apparently trying to smuggle the birds from Mataram, Lombok to Malang, East Java.

“These birds didn’t have the necessary health certificates from the provincial Office of Agricultural Quarantine and were transported by Tiara Mas bus, license plate EA 7275 A,” Sucipta told Tribun.

He added that the birds will be sent for quarantine.

It seems no matter how many bird smugglers police stop, people just keep trying to sneak them around.
