Bali Police have arrested the man they believe to be responsible for yesterday’s stabbing in Denpasar that lead to the death of woman and the critical injury of her 10-year-old son.
But apparently not before putting some “hot lead” in the suspect’s leg, as he tried to evade arrest.
The suspect, identified by the name Tono, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon. Police say they shot Tono in the leg because he tried to runaway.
“The suspect was arrested near a landfill in the Monang-Maning area. Now we are trying to find the knife that he used to kill the victim,” Tribun Bali quoted an unidentified police source as saying.
After receiving medical treatment for his newly-wounded leg, Tono was immediately transferred to Denpasar Police for questioning.
News broke yesterday afternoon of the shocking stabbing, that a man had attacked a woman and her son outside their home. Indonesian woman, Suyani, 39, died from wounds on the way to the hospital, while her 10-year-old son, Dafa, was reportedly severely injured, also from being stabbed. The most recent reports on Dafa is that he is in critical condition, suffering from being stabbed in the chest and having his lungs punctured. Bruising suggests he was also kicked by the perp, doctors said.

Additional reports have mentioned that another child of the woman, Saskia, 4, was also present during the incident but managed to flee.
It’s early to say what Tono’s motive could have been for allegedly attacking Suyani and her son, but Tribun Bali has been speculating about debt being an issue.
The victim’s husband, Joko Setiarso, 42, allegedly lent money, around Rp 1.8 million, and even gave a job to Tono, according to the local newspaper.
