Denpasar cafe employees gang up on ‘new guy’, allegedly stab him with scissors

Police arrested three young men over a beating that went down at a South Denpasar cafe on Monday morning.

The young men were all working together at Cafe Sartika.

The fight, or attack rather, was purportedly triggered by the three perps’ problems with the victim, Hageng Ilham Andaru Akbar, 23, who was the “new guy” at the cafe.

The three alleged perps were identified in reports by their initials, HK, 21, ZN, 22, and KD, 22.

“The issue from before this was that the victim was a new employee at the cafe. Just three months of working there. While the other three were old employees. Among them, there was a disagreement,” South Denpasar Police Chief Insp. Hendi Septiadi said on Tuesday, as quoted by Tribun Bali

Septiadi explained that the beating occurred on Monday at 3 am, when the victim and the three suspects were preparing to close the cafe.

“At that time, the suspects and the victim were drinking a little. Then the victim offered a Bintang to ZN, but ZN inexplicably wouldn’t accept a beer from the victim and even took the beer bottle and broke it. From there, the commotion broke out,” Septiadi said.

That’s when things really got dark.

“The victim was about about to hit ZN, but ZN hit first, making the victim fall. The other two suspects felt provoked and ganged up on the victim. Then ZN stabbed the victim with a pair of broken scissors lying around,” Septiadi added.

The three suspects, along with the evidence including the broken scissors and the broken glass were brought into the South Denpasar police station.

The three could face charges carrying sentences with more than five years of prison.
