The wife who allegedly ordered the hit on her husband Robert Ellis, 60, in their Bali villa isn’t off the hook yet, nor is it time for her to face the firing squad.
Julaikah Noor Aini aka Noor Ellis will reportedly be detained by police at least 40 more days starting yesterday to give investigators more time to build their case. Noor Ellis is suspected of paying AUD14,000 to have her husband of 25 years killed in their Sanur villa. If convicted for premeditated murder, Noor Ellis could be handed the death penalty.
Noor Ellis has been in custody since October 21 when her husband’s body was found in a rice paddy ditch, throat slit and wrapped in plastic.
Along with Noor Ellis, two maids and one of the maid’s boyfriends will also be held longer. The maids are reportedly accused of helping calm the family dogs outside during the murder and helping clean up the kitchen after Ellis’ murder.
“Our wish certainly is that it (the investigation) can be finished before their detention time expires,” said Bali police spokesman Hery Wiyanto, as quoted by the AAP.
It’s unclear from reports what and how much Noor Ellis has let slip. The AAP reviously reported that police said Noor Ellis told them she only wanted to scare her husband and not have him killed. According to the AAP, she asked her maid’s boyfriend to “solve” her marital problems, but accounts from her sons published by the West Australian sound like she basically owned up to calling the hit. She reportedly told them she felt “possessed by an evil entity” when she asked the maids to organize it.
Police are apparently hoping for a full on confession of the crime from Noor Ellis, said Hery, but if not, “that’s no problem, we still have other evidence.”
