Aussie Sara Connor claims she was trying to protect slain cop from British bf: lawyer

In a wild plot twist, the Australian woman suspected of taking part in the murder of a Bali cop is claiming that she did not try to attack the policeman, but instead that she had been trying to protect him from her British boyfriend.

Both Australian woman Sarah Connor and Briton David Taylor have been arrested as suspects in Bali for the killing of police officer Wayan Sudarsa, who was found murdered on the beach with severe head injuries on August 17.

While Connor had previously claimed that she did not attack Sudarsa, but just tried to separate the fighting men, now she is apparently taking it a step further, saying that she was trying to protect the Bali policeman.

“She said to me after she make a little bit of a reconstruction there, only between us, ‘I want to protect the victim,” said Connor’s laywer, Erwin Siregar, as quoted by ABC Australia

“‘I want to separate between David Taylor and the victim and in this case I just want to protect the victim and so I am not guilty’.”

The mother of two has thus gone from maintaining her innocence to almost championing herself as having tried to save a life. Even more, Siregar says murder charges shouldn’t be pressed because the two had no intention of killing.

Connor and Taylor had their third round of police interrogations on Thursday morning.

Earlier this week, police stated Taylor admitted to attacking Sudarsa, bashing him over the head with a bottle, mobile phone, and binoculars—but he claims he did not realize he died. The altercation apparently started when Taylor confronted Sudarsa over Connor’s missing bag.

The couple is facing a max of 15 years.
